Christmas is on the Way

We drew a picture without knowing the topic, I drew a scribble and we came up with a variety of things it could be relating to christmas. But our picture had to be done before the topic was revealed.

Footit - My New Game

We are looking at Cultural Sports, we have been investigating Kilikiti. Today for our early bird task we had to use the combination key to mix a sport with cricket. I choose Football to mix with Cricket. Here is my new game - Footit.

I can't wait to give it ago with the class. Have you ever played sports where the games are a bit mixed up?

Brain Break

Today we were making posters about being safe back at school. After a while we needed a brain break. We had a fork, a cup and four straws. We were in teams of two.

We fast walked to the table and using one hand how to hold the fork and try to get all four straws on with out touching the straws with our other hand. Mrs Mundy lined all the straws up and got them all on at once. I wish I had thought to do that. Once all the straws were on the fork, we had to stand the fork in the cup. That was tricky because of the wind blowing in our class.

Have you ever had a brain break, What did you do?

Tapa Pasifika

Not only is this week Chinese Language Week it is also Tuvalu Language Week.

After looking at a range of Tapa Patterns, thanks to the site Tapa Cloths from the Pacific and Art Work, to inspire us. We made a digital tapa pattern, we had the choice of using a premade spreadsheet with a page each and 26 x 26 square (thanks to another teacher) or Google draw with a table 10x10 inserted and the cells reduced to a square shape.

Using google draw was a better way to achieve the pattern I like, that is because you could use the gradient to colour squares and in turn get straighter lines for the diagonal parts.

Have you ever tried making a digital tapa pattern? What did you use?

These 3 are all done in google sheets.

This bottom one was done by the same student who did the above black and white, you can see the difference creating it in google draw.

Paralympics

We have been trying to engage with students while in Level 4 Lockdown and I thought we would try a version of the paralympics. Why?

  • For Fun
  • As we couldn't complete our own team olympics sports at school
  • Get students moving and engaged

After watching a range of the Paralympics, which I don't usually get to see due to being at work. I thought how interesting it was to see how they modified various activities so a range of people could participate.
E.g. ball with bells for the blind to hear, wheelchair sports and so on.

We came up with blind darts (paper planes), mouth aerobics (writing the ABC with your mouth), hand aerobics, tying a shoe lace with one hand and thumb typing "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", blind bowls (roll a tin to the kitty), blind boccia (toss under under a ball of paper) and if time athletics one legged hopping race after spinning around 10 times, and crab crawling.

Please remember these need to be done in front of a camera and were just for fun. (our computer often the target or finish line). I can't wait to see the results.

Skribbl.io Building Vocabulary

Each week we have had a word challenge.  This week it was verbs and adverbs, last week we investigated common nouns, proper nouns and collective nouns. As a fun activity to practise we played skribbl.io, it's like Pictionary online. Only hiccup is only 6 people can play at a time. If you share the screen so the others in the meet can see you just have to hid it when it is your turn to draw. They can then try to guess the word in chat.

Solider Challenge

Mrs Mundy enjoys real hands on experiences and today was not exception. We borrowed two backpacks and stuffed they full with all sorts of things to make them heavy. Heading downstairs we wondered what are we doing, it had been raining was Miss going to make us crawl through the mud. Yuck!

Arriving in the hall we moved 4 bench chairs and the large school wooden beam on to the middle of the stage. Making two teams we lined up at the far end of the hall.

You have to crawl under the seat jump up onto the stage go over the beam, touch the wall and turn around and come back.

"Easy," we all said.

"With the pack on you back," Miss said

"Oh?"

When we had finished with that task it was a matter of working together for the good old fashioned 3 legged races. Boy that was fun to watch, although I was ready to join one group but they decided to try a group of 3 people and 5 legs.

Rewards Day - Ice Skating

As a PB4L school we get to go on cool trips at the end of the term. This one was going to be cold so we didn't have to wear our uniform. Mrs Mundy had spare gloves and jackets and scarves (She is always wearing at least one scarf and a pair of gloves, probably because she leaves so early).

Two buses and a bunch of excited students and we were off. Mrs Mundy was great to laugh at she was slow and kept falling down. But she didn't give up (she knew she could do it).

Once Mrs Mundy was underway she helped us get on our feet too. But that didn't stop her nearly falling over with us.
